ELEPHANT CONSERVATION

Increased drought associated with climate change affects food and water availability of in most savannah areas. FEES are working with Terre et Faune and Enduimet Wildlife Management Area to ensure availability of water for elephant and other wildlife in Sinya's driest savannahs by creating or re-building water holes.

REBUILDING CARNIVORE POPULATIONS

Carnivore numbers across Africa have declined significantly. One of the main causes is the direct conflict with humans. Lions living in areas inhabited by nomadic pastoralists in Enduimet has been vulnerable to this conflict, due to their predation on livestock. Herders retaliate by fatally shooting, spearing, or poisoning lions and other large carnivores. FEES and the QOA Association are introducing a Livestock Rearing Dog project, using specially trained dogs to protect livestock and prevent carnivore attacks in Enduimet's Maasai community.
